Description: | Little Lake on the Hill, named
by old Mad Dog Bundi, is one of our favorite destinations to fish. Because
it is a good distance from camp, it is often a perfect place for overnight
camping. A beautiful pine camping area is found on the east shore where
the portage trail comes from Billy. The lake is a small circular lake that has changed much in the past 20 years. Large lily weedbeds dominate the North and south end. The shorelines on the east and west sides are normally rocky with many felled trees. |
Strategy: | Three old beaver huts are great fishing locations and the deeper middle is where you can find big northern. We usually chuck crawlers on jig heads in all the weedy areas. I also like to catch small baitfish add a bobber and throw it out behind the boat. This is a technique that has worked great in the past. If the wind kicks up, we will troll with minnow baits and tube baits at different depths, especially around the felled trees, casting at any cover we find along the route. |
Things to Consider: |
Consider coming out to this lake in the early afternoon to fish the dusk when action is the best, camp and then awake early in the morning to fish the sun rise. The pine grove for camping is delightful and includes a perfect stone ledge for cooking the days fish and breakfast in the AM. |
