Ontario is the best place in the world for Smallmouth Bass fishing and one of the very best Smallmouth Bass Lakes in Ontario is Bear Lake. Bear Lake and our surrounding remote lakes are teeming with Smallmouth Bass of all sizes. The previous owner used to offer a Guide Service Guarantee. He would take a group out and if they did not catch 200 bass, that day's guide service was on the house. Bear Lake is one of those lakes where you just catch so many you lose count.
Smallmouth Bass (and Largemouth) continue to be our best fishery. In terms of quality and quantity, Bear Lake is tough to beat. Bear Lake Wilderness Camp ranks in the top 5 lodges in Ontario by OFAH (Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters) for trophy Smallmouth Bass entries in their Ontario Angler Awards.
Smallmouth Bass in Bear Lake and the surrounding lakes are very common in the 2 to 4-pound range and caught anywhere near rocks or the shoreline. Like any lake, the big old bass always get the best spots on the lake so if you pull up to a rocky point or rocky shoal that seems like perfect Smallmouth territory and you are not catching a bunch of 2, 3 and 4-pounders, then you will know a big trophy bass has staked his claim in the area and has chased the smaller bass out. Our guests do catch 5 and 6-pound Smallmouth Bass with the occasional 7-pound monster. Somewhere in the lake there are larger bass. Expect to "limit-out" many times over on Bass' daily limit. To keep Bear Lake the best bass fishing lake in Ontario, we ask that only injured fish or small fish are taken and the big old boys get let go.
You also have the choice to fish Bear Lake or the 25 surrounding lakes, which all offer great bass fishing. If you like catching bass after bass after bass, this is where you want to be.
